Approach
We have a holistic approach to ensure every scholar feels nurtured, supported, and empowered. From middle school through college and beyond, we provide comprehensive mentorship, academic guidance, and career resources that address both personal and professional growth. By equipping our scholars with the tools, networks, and opportunities they need, we help them break barriers, persist through challenges, and build a future of success.
Challenge enrolls scholars in private schools beginning in middle school to provide a greater opportunity to overcome inequities. The Challenge Foundation’s philosophy is based on a holistic approach, with services such as enrichment opportunities, mentoring, advising, mental health support, tutoring, and college advising. Our whole-student approach ensures that each Scholar is supported to further develop individual strengths and to provide opportunities for growth as they pursue their goals.
Each Scholar is paired with a dedicated volunteer mentor who commits to a long-term partnership from middle school through high school. Mentors are essential as they provide ongoing support, meaningful experiences, and encouragement throughout the Scholar’s journey. Ideally, this relationship creates a lasting impact on the Scholar’s growth, confidence, and success.
Scholars participate in a variety of summer opportunities including academic enrichment, cultural experiences, and career exploration that culminate in personal growth.
Every Challenge Scholar attends one of our partner schools from middle school through high school graduation. Each private school offers an academically challenging curriculum, and an individualized and nurturing educational environment. In addition to a top-tier education, Scholars can engage in a range of enriching extracurricular activities, all made accessible through scholarship funding.
Every Challenge Scholar has a Challenge Advisor to help students and their families navigate their academic and social environments from middle school through college. Advisors offer holistic support via a variety of services including academic guidance, social and emotional support, access to resources, and college and financial aid counseling.
Challenge Advisors provide academic support to scholars by meeting with teachers and school counselors, participating in parent-teacher conferences, and connecting Scholars with tutoring resources.
Challenge Advisors support scholars in navigating personal and academic challenges and managing the social complexities of adolescence. As a community, Challenge strives to create an environment where all are comfortable as their authentic selves. When needed, scholars also have access to professional counseling services to further support their well-being.
Challenge Advisors help scholars and their families access essential resources that promote success, such as computers, transportation support, school supplies, clothing, athletic equipment, musical instruments, and medical needs like physicals, glasses, and braces.
Challenge Advisors support scholars in preparing for the SAT and ACT, navigating college applications, submitting the FAFSA, and guiding them through college selection and course of study decisions. Scholars continue to be supported with advising and limited gap funding through college completion.
